Ahead of the start of the 2023-2024 NBA season, StockX and the Detroit Pistons have announced a new partnership that will see the resale platform’s logo placed on the Piston's upcoming jerseys.
Though this may look like just another jersey sponsorship at first glance, Pistons Vice Chairman Arn Tellem states this is much more than a simple sponsorship deal. “We look forward to leveraging the collective power of our brands to engage new and existing Pistons fans,” said Tellem. “We are also excited to collaborate with StockX on off-the-court initiatives at the intersection of sports, fashion, and culture that align with our organizations’ shared commitment to drive positive change in the Detroit community and beyond.”
One of the first off-the-court initiatives will be a partnership with Pensole Lewis College of Business and Design, which will include programming efforts and opportunities for students to engage with both brands. In addition, StockX will participate in the Pistons’ Community Give-Back Event. This special holiday gathering impacts hundreds of Detroiters during the Pistons’ annual Season of Giving activities.
To celebrate this new partnership, both StockX and the Pistons have announced a community event titled Detroit Kickback. Notable Detroiters in attendance include Big Sean, Lindsey Hunter, Cade Cunningham, and Jalen Rose. Those in the Detroit area can attend the free event beginning today at 12:30 PM local time at Campus Martius Park, with the event closing at 5:30 PM.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the deal will be seeing Nike’s logo affixed on the Pistons’ jerseys right next to StockX’s, as the two are still in an ongoing legal battle. However, StockX’s COO Greg Schwartz told Complex, “We feel like we’re in good company with the Swoosh on the other side of the jersey.”
Schwartz continued, “StockX sits at the intersection of sport and culture, empowering people to trade what they love. Together with the Detroit Pistons, we will connect and engage our customers by tying together their love of basketball and passion for current culture. We are excited about the power of this partnership and the opportunity it affords us to positively impact both our organizations and the city we call home.”
