TED conferences have hosted experts in all fields of research, science, politics, and popular culture since 1990, bringing their motto of “ideas worth spreading” to life. Their TEDx events, while being more community-focused and much smaller, have become a staple in cities across America, as is the case in the city of Portland. Due to COVID-19 and its effects, the TEDxPortland event has been rescheduled three times already, arriving 1,164 days since the last event in 2019. In commemoration of TEDxPortland’s 10th Anniversary, Nike is set to release a slew of models including a TEDxPortland x Nike Air Force 1 Low.
The humble AF1 gets a premium makeover, utilizing white tumbled leather for its underlays and overlays. Working up from the perforated toebox, things look similar until you hit the TEDxPortland tongue tag in a mix of black and red. On the reverse, the letter “P” is embroidered representing the city of Portland. On the end of the laces, including the extra set of red laces, the phrase “Ideas Worth Spreading” is written on the aglet.
A Nike Swoosh along the profile gets covered in an iridescent material, sitting above the debossed “Ideas Worth Spreading” text on the lateral side and “1,164” on the medial side representing the days since the last TEDxPortland. Working inside the sneaker, the insoles “AUDACIOUS” graphic represents the theme of the 2022 event. On the heel, an iridescent “10” text commemorates the 10th anniversary the shoe is celebrating. Rounding out the look is the white midsole with red Air branding set to a white rubber outsole.
The TEDxPortland x Nike Air Force 1 Low 10th Anniversary is set to release on May 28th, 2022 in-person at this year's TEDxPortland with a wider release slated for later in the year.
