Collaborating with a little-known music collective might make some scratch their heads, but The Blue Trio x adidas Collection uses emboldened designs that captivate specific audiences. Originating in India, The Blue Trio plays soothing melodies from Classical Fusion, Independent, and Film genres, concentrating on private and corporate events. Largely unknown worldwide, they have an active and staunch fanbase in Asia, with adidas tapping into this relatively niche and underground scene. Bringing forth a collection of two shoes, both individual and unique in their sense, the Energy team at adidas hopes to expand their reach and grow in markets untapped by sportswear brands.
The first one is The Blue Trio x adidas Handball Spezial. The shoe features core black patent leather wrapping around the back heel, lace stay, and T-toe. The rest of the upper is constructed from fine nylon fabrics that are finished with diamond stitching, giving the appearance of a quilted inner lining of the type of jacket that musical conductors tend to favor; it's pretty spectacular. Cloud White leather on the stripes back, tongue, and back heel tab helps break up the black-based theme. Co-branding comes into play via the tongue, back heel, and outsoles. All this sits upon a core black solid rubber sole to complete the aesthetic.
The second shoe in the pack, the Blue Trio x adidas Gazelle Indoor, is truly an attention grabber. Subtle yet stylish, the brown-based upper consists of leather, with the lace stay and T-toe made of suede. The leather is finished with laser-print etching, giving the appearance of natural varnished wood, such as a violin or cello would look like. Cloud White leather covers the stripes on the sides and dimpled tongue, and to the rear is a scarlet heel tab. Again, co-branding is found via the tongue, insoles, and back heel. Placed upon a gum sole, they exude something rather suave.
The The Blue Trio x adidas Collection is set to release in Fall 2024 through adidas and select retailers in-store and online. Available in men's sizing, retail is TBD.
