Grace Wales Bonner's collaboration with adidas has consistently infused the sportswear giant's archives with her unique blend of high-fashion sensibilities and cultural storytelling. Following the successful release of studded Samba colorways earlier this year, the partnership is set to continue with an expansive Spring/Summer 2024 Collection. This new lineup builds on the previous releases' momentum, bringing forward-thinking designs and premium materials to the forefront.
The Spring/Summer 2024 Collection from Wales Bonner and adidas showcases craftsmanship and style, featuring six new sneakers, including four iterations of the Samba Millennium and two of the SL76. The Samba Millennium models are re-envisioned with Nappa leather and distinctive soccer-inspired stitching on the toe. The colorways are particularly striking, featuring a split design of cream on the front, tan on the rear, and another combining tan leather with faux pony hair in vibrant blue at the back. These designs are complemented by green sockliners and subtle co-branding on the tongue, creating a sophisticated, sporty look. The sole mirrors the classic Samba Millennium, maintaining its original integrity while embracing new aesthetic touches.
Two other Sambas are also part of the collection, retaining the look of the OG pair. These iterations come with a leather and suede construction, featuring suede on the T-shaped overlay on the toe and the eyelets. Faux reptile leather hits the Three Stripes, the tongue, and the heel tab, the latter two featuring extra stitching details. Wales Bonner branding replaces the Sabma text on the midfoot and the label's name is placed alongside adidas' on the tongue. Underfoot sits a semi-translucent gum sole unit.
The SL76 models adopt a lighter, airy feel with open-spaced mesh, leather, and nappy suede. The Ash Blue colorway uses this palette effectively, blending the cool tones with black leather accents on the Three Stripes and heel tab, further accentuating the vintage yet timeless appeal of the silhouette. Co-branded tongue tags add a signature touch to these meticulously crafted sneakers, which sit atop a cream and black sole that rounds out the design with a classic finish. Alongside the Ash Blue, a Yellow Bold Orange rendition is also slated to drop.
The Wales Bonner x adidas Spring/Summer 2024 Collection will release on May 21, 2024, through Wales Bonner, adidas, and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail prices have not been announced.
