A Ruby Red Slipper-Inspired Wizard of Oz x Nike SB Dunk Low Has Appeared

One of the final send-offs to 2024 was Nike SB’s collaboration with The Wizard of Oz on the Nike SB Dunk Low. The pair in question was inspired by the iconic scene in which Dorothy lies in a poppy field, with an all-over print of poppy flowers present on the upper. The obvious homage to her ruby red slippers is revealed when this layer is removed. Still, Nike SB created an ultra-rare colorway of the Wizard of Oz SB Dunks that commemorates the footwear worn by Dorothy.

Revealed here by David Toole, owner of Bluetile Skateboards in South Carolina, the pair was purchased by a customer in the store after the shop had received a late shipment of more Wizard of Oz SBs. Like other pairs, it was sealed in a blind bag that, up until this point, was assumed to be part of special packaging. Upon discovering the rare colorway, David filmed the pair for his YouTube channel and revealed all the unique details in this iteration of the Wizard of Oz SB Dunks.

Forgoing the graphic print, the upper is constructed entirely out of red sequins that give the sneakers the same appearance as the red slippers worn by Judy Garland in her portrayal of Dorothy. Most of the paneling takes on this red sequin finish, but the toebox features hits of orange and yellow that make it appear on fire, directly referencing the moment when the Wicked Witch of the West tries to remove the slippers from Dorothy’s feet.

Another change from the original is the inclusion of a blue hue on the satin sockliner, strikingly similar to the color of Dorothy’s dress from the film. Special insoles also show the iconic “Surrender Dorothy” text the witch spells out with her broomstick in the sky. The solid red rubber midsole finishes the design with a clear rubber outsole.

Unfortunately for most of us, this special Wizard of Oz x Nike SB Dunk Low Ruby Red Slipper is supposedly ultra-limited, with the exact number of pairs produced unknown now. Considering the release occurred almost a month ago, and people are just now finding pairs, there are likely only a handful out in the wild.
