Forever changing the landscape of athletic footwear with its visible air unit, the Air Max 1 remains as relevant today as it was at its inception in 1987. The OG model in the Air Max series still holds its own and will remain a major part of the release calendar for Nike. For its latest makeover, the silhouette gets a premium build with a patchwork-like design and earthy hues to celebrate King's Day.
In the Netherlands, King's Day is typically celebrated on April 27 and marks the birth of King Willem-Alexander. On the day, festivals, events, and even a nationwide flea market occur, with many sporting the country's national color of orange. To pay homage to this event, the Air Max 1 gets a striking combination of cacao wow and bright mandarin, presenting a rich visual texture that is both bold and sophisticated.

The sneaker employs a diverse mix of materials, including premium leather, breathable mesh, and durable canvas, to construct a patchwork-like upper that is as eye-catching as it is functional. The split mudguard showcases a blend of cacao wow leather at the forefoot, transitioning into a rustic brown canvas towards the heel, mirroring this pattern on the vamp for a cohesive look.
The midfoot panel's cacao wow leather provides a smooth contrast to the textured leather at the heel that mimics a woodgrain pattern, punctuated by vibrant orange accents on the Swoosh, lace stays, and heel tab. The design is completed with a classic brown Air Max 1 sole unit, offering time-tested comfort and support. The outsole takes on a combo of orange, brown, and tan.
The Nike Air Max 1 King's Day was originally released Spring 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store overseas. A year later, EU retailers will restock the pair on April 22, 2025. The retail price is set at $140 in men's sizing. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app for the latest updates on this release, raffles, and more.
