BAPE’s heyday is long gone, as the Japanese streetwear titan is not the pinnacle of fashion as it was in the mid-2000s. However, there has been renewed interest in the brand over the last year, and of course, they’ve maintained the ability to partner with just about everyone under the sun. Following up on the reveal of Don Toliver’s upcoming collaboration with BAPE on the ROAD STA silhouette, BAPE has announced the release of a “What The” BAPE STA colorway to commemorate all of its US retail locations.
Taking camo prints from the US BAPE stores, including Madison, Soho, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, New Jersey, and Las Vegas, the silhouette comes with mismatched paneling throughout the design. We see Miami’s South Beach-inspired print land on the heel overlay of the lateral side while the midfoot panel nearby takes on the print used by Madison Ave. Vegas appears via the toebox, surrounded by the camo print of the SoHo BAPE store on the mudguard.
Moving on to the medial side, we see the Chicago store’s camo used on the midfoot, while the heel overlay comes in Los Angeles’ yellow, gold, purple, and blue color scheme. Along the eyelet and vamp sits the final store’s camo pattern, New Jersey. All this vibrant and mismatched paneling is grounded by white details on the BAPE star, heel tab, laces, sockliner, and sole unit.
The A Bathing Ape BAPE STA What The will release on November 29, 2024, through BAPE’s US storefront and on the US BAPE webstore. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
