Damian Lillard’s partnership with adidas has been one of the most successful collaborations in basketball footwear. Since signing with the brand before his rookie season in 2012, Dame has seen nine signature sneakers hit the market, each evolving with his game. While we did see his 10th sneaker, the Dame 9, debut back in February during NBA All-Star weekend, the model was also spotted on the court during the NBA Playoffs in a Purple Burst colorway, which is now launching in September. Before this goes down, the sneaker will drop in collaborative colorways with BAPE.
The adidas Dame 9 Purple Burst stands out in performance and design. The sneaker features a lightweight and breathable inner neoprene bootie in black, providing a snug and supportive fit. Over this, a purple synthetic overlay wraps around the toe, midfoot, and heel, offering durability and style. This purple hue honors Dame's college team, Weber State, while the red is a tribute to his 11-year run with the Portland Trailblazers. A distinctive Three Stripe cutout on the midfoot adds to the shoe's ventilation and showcases the iconic adidas branding.
Adding a bold contrast to the deep purple upper, Dame's signature logo appears in a vibrant red hue on the tongue tag. This same red is seen on the midsole, beginning at the heel and transitioning into a gradient that fades into purple towards the front, which alludes to the Dame's persevering journey from unknown prospect to being named one of the NBA's top 75 players of all time. The midsole is equipped with zoned Lightstrike cushioning, ensuring optimal comfort and energy return, which is crucial for Lillard's explosive style of play.
The adidas Dame 9 Purple Burst will release on September 13, 2024, through adidas and select retailers both online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120.
