The “banned” theme made famous by the NBA on the original Nike Air Ship in 1985 (not the AJ1) inspired 2011’s “Bred” Air Jordan 1 Retro High. Known as the “Banned” edition, those breds featured a red “X” on the back heels, the date “10.18.85” on the lining and custom printed insoles. Due to the negative message it sends today, Jordan Brand canceled their release and they wound up in select Nike outlets labeled as “B-Grades.”
In 2016 when the “Bred” Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG returned, it was labeled as another “Banned” edition, seemling swapping nicknames with the love/hate bred term. For 2022, Jordan Brand is set to honor the “Banned” legacy with the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Rebellionaire.”
Coming in a “Shadow-like” black, white and particle grey, these AJ 1’s feature traditional color blocking in black and grey. Sporting an all-leather upper with the phase “They Can’t Stop You From Wearing Them” in various text graphics throughout. Original “Nike Air” branding on the tongue tag and a red “X” on the back heel finishes things off for the “Rebellionaire” AJ1.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Rebellionaire is set to release on March 12th, 2022. It will launch at Nike and select stores retailing for $170 in men’s sizing. They will also be available in gradeschool (GS) sizing coming in at the usual $130 price tag.
