Michael Jordan's illustrious NBA career would not be where it ended up without having played at Chapel Hill for the University of North Carolina. Even decades removed from his college days, MJ still finds time to show UNC some love, often through Jordan Brand releases and PE sneakers. Just as the NCAA basketball season is beginning to kick off, UNC has shared images of its latest PE sneaker from Jordan Brand in the form of the Air Jordan 1 High. This follows up on the Jordan 1 Low PE that was gifted to the school in the spring.
Like the GR colorway from 1985, this UNC rendition of the Jordan 1 High mixes white and university blue hues across its leather construction. UNC gets the luxury of premium leather with raw edges while retaining the classic colorblocking and look of the OG. University Blue leather hits the mudguard, eyestays, Swoosh, collar, and heel, while white leather takes over the rest of the paneling.
More uni blue is found on the sockliner, accenting the white lace set and tongue. Branding details are replaced on the right sneaker to feature UNC’s logo, while the left pair keeps the Nike Air text. Underfoot sits a white AJ 1 midsole paired with a university blue rubber outsole.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG UNC PE will remain exclusive to members of the Tar Heel’s basketball program and will not be seeing a public release. Take a look down below while we await the next retro of the UNC colorway for the public, and download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest in sneakers and streetwear.
