Nike’s history with collegiate sports programs runs deep as the label has been teaming up with universities like Georgetown, Syracuse, and St. John’s since the 80s and has continued to expand its reach in this world. Not only is Nike Sportswear a major sponsor but so too is Jordan Brand with both labels giving schools yearly PE colorways of their most iconic silhouettes. For the University Of North Carolina, we often see Jordan Brand craft thoughtful renditions of retro Air Jordan sneakers with 2023s (for the UNC football team) being on the Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG.
Like the Air Jordan 1 High that was created for a series of Jordan Brand-sponsored schools a few years back, the “UNC Football” PE takes on shades of sail, black, and university blue throughout its upper. Along the mudguard, eyestays, and heel sits university blue cracked leather while the toebox and quarter panel take on a slightly tumbled leather finish in shades of sail. Tonal laces match these underlays as well as the tongue while the tongue tag forgoes any school branding in favor of “Nike Air” text instead. Along the midfoot we see a black Nike Swoosh take on a football-like leather finish while the sockliner nearby takes on a quilted university blue look that matches the UNC-branded insoles. Rounding out the look is the sail AJ 1 midsole paired with a gum rubber outsole.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG UNC Football PE will remain exclusive to the football players and staff at the University Of North Carolina.
