The iconic Air Jordan line (specifically the original 14 models MJ rocked on the court) brings a deep-rooted connection to Michael Jordan’s career. Each silhouette can be tied to specific moments during his playing days. However, after his retirement, Jordan Brand began to fuse these various designs into models like the Jordan Two Trey and, more recently, the Jordan MVP. At the same time most of these forgo the inclusion of the Air Jordan 2, a silhouette that many (even MJ himself) disdain. 2024 is set to feature a hybrid silhouette combining the AJ 2 and AJ 3 - the Air Jordan 2/3.
Taking the sole unit from the Tinker Hatfield-designed Air Jordan 3 and mashing it with the upper of the Air Jordan 2 Low, this isn’t the first case in which JB took a sole unit from one sneaker and added it to another. The Air Jordan 1.5 is a prime example of this. After Jordan was injured in the 85/86 NBA season, Nike crafted a Jordan 1 that took the sole unit of the then-unreleased Air Jordan 2 as it provided more comfort for the nagging foot injury MJ experienced.
For this new fusion of two classic J’s, Jordan Brand keeps the upper of the Air Jordan 2 Low intact and douses it in a White Varsity Red color scheme and White Black. White premium leather wraps throughout the upper and features perforations along the edge of the toebox and midfoot. Red hits mark the TPU heel counter and the piping of the midfoot’s leather panel while the rest of the sneaker’s upper continues the white shade. Underfoot, we see the Air Jordan 3 midsole with an Air unit visible in the heel come to us in a slightly aged look featuring red hits near the rear. The outsole comes in a combo of grey and sail, rounding everything out.
The Air Jordan 2/3 will be released in Summer 2024 in White Varsity Red and White Black through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's and gradeschool sizing, retail is set at $160 and $120, respectively.
