The Air Jordan signature series redefines sneaker technology with the much-anticipated Air Jordan 38. Designed by Jordan footwear designer, Joël Greenspan, the Jordan 38 intricately captures Michael Jordan's footwork. In fact, Greenspan drew inspiration and developed the AJ XXXVIII design from Michael Jordan's famous step back jumper. 2023's Jordan reflects MJ's impeccable on-court swagger and allows the next generation to connect to the basketball legend through this high performance basketball sneaker.
Getting into the specs of the Air Jordan 38. The sneaker introduces the innovative X-Plate, a new plate technology designed to enhance the player's footwork and court mobility. It aims to emulate Jordan's flair for creating separation and his iconic fadeaway jumper. Strategically positioned low to the ground, the X-Plate, combined with a radial herringbone traction pattern, a full-length Zoom Strobel unit, and Cushlon 3.0 foam, promises an improved court feel and an enhanced response during pivots, cuts, and defensive slides.
Crafted with at least 20 percent recycled material by weight, the Air Jordan 38 is the most ecologically responsible Air Jordan signature shoe in the brand's history. Transitioning from the jump-centric designs of the Air Jordan 34, 35, and 36, the Air Jordan 38 shifts the focus toward the ground game. One of the standout features is the forefoot's backless embroidery, an unprecedented technique in basketball shoe manufacturing. This innovative design element aids foot lockdown, providing a secure fit for the player during intense gameplay.
For the upper of the AJ38, Jordan Brand took inspiration from MJ’s performance in the 1993 NBA Championship. Embroidered details across the shoe call back to his stat line, including the 41 cross stitches on the collar representing his 41 points per game average and the three diamonds on the medial side representing 1993 being the third championship for the Bulls.
A particularly noteworthy aspect is the active involvement of Michael Jordan himself in the design process. His insightful input on the construction of the toe box led to significant improvements in the shoe's comfort, particularly in the forefoot area.
