One of the best sneaker releases in recent memory, the collaboration between Nike SB and Jordan Brand on the Air Jordan 4 has changed the model for the good. Going forward, Nike has retooled the AJ4 to feature the same tooling and shape as the skate-ready version released in 2023. Leading up to the release of the pair, skaters like Paul Rodriguez were testing the retooling by wearing an all-black pair of AJ4s that many thought was the pair that would be released. However, we eventually received the Pine Green colorway, with currently no other Jordan 4 SBs confirmed to release. Thanks to English Sole, we have an up-close detailed look at the all-black wear test sample of the Jordan 4 SB.
This exclusive wear test sample of the Air Jordan 4 SB diverges from the Pine Green colorway that eventually hit the retail market. This sample iteration adopts a stealthy black aesthetic, crafted from an all-suede upper that distinguishes it from its Pine Green counterpart. The metallic wings on the lacing system add a subtle contrast, shining against the sneaker's predominantly matte finish. Notably, the sample bears markings on the sole unit, likely used to denote the tooling setup or which version of the sneaker was crafted.
This wear test sample exhibits several key differences despite sharing the overall silhouette with the retail version. The tongue padding is notably thinner, suggesting adjustments to enhance comfort or fit. Additionally, the heel branding diverges from the final design, featuring a black Jumpman logo instead of the Nike SB tag found on the Pine Green release. Completing the design is a fully blacked-out sole unit, maintaining the sample's understated appeal.
