The Air Jordan line has a deep history. One model from the early days is still shrouded in mystery. We’re talking about the AJKO iteration of the AJ 1, which many refer to as the “knockoff” Air Jordan 1. This canvas-based version was released as a part of the original AJ 1 lineup from 1985-86. Over the years, the model received a few sporadic retro releases, with the last two years hosting a run of colorways, including the OG “Chicago” and a “Syracuse” inspired pair. In 2023, Union LA stepped up to the plate, debuting the AJKO 1 Low, in two exclusive colorways. Following this collaborative effort, an in-line colorway of the Air Jordan 1 AJKO 1 Low has emerged as a part of Jordan Brand’s Fall 2023 lineup- a clean “Bred” rendition.
Taking inspiration from the “Bred” colorway (seen in both the standard AJ 1 and the AJKO), the model retains its canvas construction and utilizes “Bred” color blocking. Black panels wrap around the mudguard, eyestays, and quarter panel/heel, while vibrant red hits land on the toebox, Swoosh, and heel tab. More black-on-black hits take over the tongue and lace set, with the Nike-branded tongue tag hosting red text. Internally, the sockliner keeps the black theme alive, though a nod to OG Jordan releases is present in white with sizing info stamped on. Our final branding hit is found on the heel with the Jordan Wings logo (reworked to feature AJKO text) placed in black. Rounding out the look is the sail midsole paired with a red rubber outsole.
The Air Jordan AJKO 1 Low Bred will release on August 23, 2023 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120.
