It looks like one of ASICS' most iconic basketball shoes is set to make a comeback very soon. At the end of last month, Ronnie Fieg dug deep into the Japanese sportswear giant's archives for the Kith x ASICS EX89. Following the official announcement, the '80s silhouette is back and better than ever, in the form of the ASICS EX89 "NBA" Pack. Inspired by some of the most legendary basketball teams in the league, make sure you read on to find out everything that we know so far.
Coming in three colorways, each one nods to a different NBA team including the Lakers, Knicks, and Celtics. Crafted from full leather constructions, mesh tongues offer a more versatile fit and finish. ASICS' world-renowned logo is finely stitched onto the tongue tag and heel, while the Tiger Stripes pounce across the lateral and medial sidewalls, just like the OG. Originally called the GEL-EXTREME back in the day, while the model has received a bit of a name change, it has retained the GEL-infused midsole underfoot which offers a crazy amount of comfort and cushioning with every step, whether you're on the basketball court or the city streets. These are then packed in special shoeboxes, honoring the return of one of the brand's most iconic hardcourt sneakers.
The ASICS EX89 NBA Pack is set to release before the end of 2022. Coming in men's sizes with a retail price yet TBA, they'll be available at ASICS and a select few retailers worldwide.
