Asics may not be on the radar of your average sneakerhead, but those in the know understand the brand's deep-rooted history, from being intertwined with The Swoosh in their early days to producing sleeper collaborations. One of the brand's latest offerings, while not a collaboration, takes inspiration from the historical Wisteria tree, a symbol of long-life and immortality in Japan, coming via the aptly named Asics Gel-Lyte III OG “Wisteria.”
Coming constructed out of perforated leather throughout the underlay, various suede overlays take over and provide depth to the silhouette. Shades present on the Wisteria tree appear via the cream eyestays and lilac shades on the toebox, heel overlay, and midfoot panel, of which the first two come in a hairy appearance. Cream laces come in a slightly different shade compared to the eyestays while Asics branding details get covered in lilac, found on the heel tab, heel overlay, and insole. The mesh sockliner borrows the lighter lilac hue, though the final hits of lilac come in a darker variety on the outsole. Rounding out the entire look is the cream-colored GEL cushioned midsole.
The Asics Gel-Lyte III OG Wisteria is slated to release in 2022 through Asics and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
