Asics has made quite the resurgence in the sneakerhead world as mesh runners remain a hot ticket item in the industry. We've seen the brand continually bring new takes on retro models like the Gel-Kayano 14 and Gel-1130 while introducing new models inspired by this era of mesh runners, like the Gel-NYC. Now, an update to the Gel-NYC is arriving with the Gel-2055.
Taking its inspiration from archival running shoes from the early 2000s, the upper of the Gel-2055 blends the look of the GT-2050 and GT-2060, landing somewhere between the two and earning the sneaker the Gel-2055 name. The sneaker features a white mesh base that allows for breathability and comfort. Leather panels in contrasting colors adorn the toe, eyestays, and heel, providing durability and a premium feel. The Asics Tiger stripe, a hallmark of the brand, runs across the side profile in a bold color, adding to the sneaker’s dynamic aesthetic. Additional Asics branding is meticulously embroidered on the lateral heel and the tongue, showcasing attention to detail.
Underfoot, the Gel-NYC 2055 borrows the sole unit from the Gel-Cumulus 16, ensuring that it looks good and performs well. The midsole offers excellent cushioning and support, making it suitable for casual wear and athletic activities. The outsole is designed for traction and durability, rounding out the sneaker's functional and stylish design.
The Asics Gel-NYC 2055 will release in four colorways on July 19, 2024, through Asics and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
