Last year, adidas and A BATHING APE teamed up to celebrate the latter’s 30th birthday and the 20th anniversary of the first BAPE x adidas footwear release. The duo have not slowed down on working with one another, so far working on the NRTN, Stan Smith, and Dame 9 in 2024. Capping off the year is a new project on a mesh runner with three colorways of the adidas Orketro.
Recalling BAPE’s early days in the Y2K era, the ‘00s-inspired Oketro (designed in Japan) comes in Core Black, Dark Purple, and Green Yellow. Each pair comes with patent leather hits that feature BAPE’s famous camo print design on the toebox overlays that work back to the midfoot, a nod to the Y2K BAPESTA. Below this is a mesh base covering the entire upper, spanning back to the heel and the tongue. Branding is also reworked as BAPE removes the Three Stripes logo on the midfoot in favor of the BAPE STA star logo and A BATHING APE text. More BAPE logos find a home on the insole, while the tongue tag contains a Trefoil logo and Oketro text. Underfoot, the three pairs come with an adiPRENE+-cushioned midsole in a tonal finish that matches portions of the upper paired with a tonal rubber outsole. As with most BAPE collabs, custom packaging is present here, with a blue mesh dust bag offered in the box.
The BAPE x adidas Oketro Pack will release in Holiday 2024 through adidas, BAPE, and possibly via select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
