New Balance’s 99X series dates back decades, with one model celebrating its 35th birthday, the New Balance 996. While Made in USA renditions appeared throughout the year, other versions, like the 35th Anniversary Pack, introduced new design details to the model. One of New Balance’s Japanese collaborators, BEAMS, has infused the 996 with Gore-Tex.
The BEAMS x New Balance 996 GTX is a masterful blend of technical materials and aesthetic appeal. The sneaker features a combination of synthetic suede and mesh, all constructed from Gore-Tex fabric, giving it a weather-resistant finish perfect for diverse conditions. A unique aspect of this collaboration is the mismatched design. Each pair showcases woodland camo shades, including browns, greens, tans, and olives, artfully distributed across the sneaker.
This camo motif adds a rugged yet sophisticated look to the shoe. Co-branding is evident on the tongue, celebrating the union of BEAMS and New Balance. Gore-Tex branding is subtly placed on the insole, and an added tag near the collar emphasizes the shoe's functional qualities. The design is completed with a creamy foam midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The BEAMS x New Balance 996 GTX will release exclusively via BEAMS online on November 18, 2023. The retail price has yet to be announced. Keep it locked to the Sole Retriever mobile app for the latest updates on this release, along with other news and raffles in the sneaker and streetwear world.
