Carhartt, renowned for its rugged workwear, has made waves in fashion with its Carhartt WIP (Work In Progress) division. Established in 2010, this sub-label is a testament to the brand's versatility, effortlessly meshing functionality with style. Notable collaborations have graced this offshoot, with one of the most memorable being with New Balance on the 990v1 in September 2022. Fast forward a year, and the dynamic duo has returned, choosing the 990v6 from New Balance's coveted 99X series as their canvas, set to debut in familiar Carhartt earthy tones.
Harnessing the aesthetics of Carhartt and integrating them with the craft of New Balance, this 990v6 radiates a refined yet rugged charm. The American-made sneaker features a blend of soft pigskin suede, tactile perforated nubuck, and breathable dark grey mesh underlays. Earthy tan hues dominate the suede portions, harmonizing with the more natural tones on the perforated nubuck. Dark brown leather accents encircle the collar and heel, subtly complementing the grey "N" logo outlined in the same rich leather. The two-toned tongue showcases the Carhartt Work In Progress emblem, subtly hinting at this collaboration's heritage, which crowns the design. Familiar branding remains a constant, accentuating the shoe's lateral heel and heel tab. Inside sits a co-branded insole featuring insignias of both iconic brands. Completing this masterpiece, the layered foam midsole, embedded with advanced FuelCell cushioning, stands atop a contrasting black and brown rubber outsole.
The Carhartt WIP x New Balance 990v6 Made in USA will release on October 20, 2023 via New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $220.
