Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers From The Wizard of Oz Sell for $32.5 Million at Auction
Published
The Wizard of Oz universe captivates audiences again with the release of Wicked as a full-length feature film, bringing renewed attention to the film’s universe. On the footwear front, Nike SB is stepping into the spotlight with an official collaboration on the SB Dunk Low inspired by Dorothy’s iconic moment in the poppy field. Meanwhile, another piece of Oz history has made headlines, as the original ruby red slippers Judy Garland wore recently sold at auction for an astonishing $32.5 million.
This insane price tag makes this the most expensive piece of movie memorabilia ever sold and the most expensive footwear ever sold at auction. We’ve seen other high-priced footwear items sell at auctions, including game-worn sneakers from Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant and rare sneakers like a pair of Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low Olive the rapper wore at Rolling Loud. Of course, none of the aforementioned sneaker auctions have sniffed close to the price tag these ruby red slippers have fetched, the closest being the complete set of MJ-worn championship-winning sneakers for $8 million in early 2024.
If you’re looking to honor the movie, showcase your love for the franchise, or want a fresh pair of shoes to skate, Nike SB will drop The Wizard of Oz SB Dunk Lows on December 23, 2024, for a much more affordable $135 in adult sizes.
