Reebok has partnered again with New York-based Engineered Garments, led by Daiki Suzuki, to release an innovative twist on the classic Reebok BB4000 II. Inspired by 1980s university style and infused with elements from hip-hop fashion, this collaboration showcases Engineered Garments' distinctive approach to design, which has earned the brand its avant-garde reputation over the past two decades.
Available in striking Gold Metallic and Silver Metallic colorways, these sneakers feature a luxurious all-leather upper with a unique embossed pattern, resonating with the detailed craftsmanship of Engineered Garments and the iconic sporty silhouette of Reebok. Each pair boasts an embossed quarter panel logo and sits on a classic chalk midsole with a timeless gum rubber outsole, maintaining the integrity and heritage of the original BB4000 II design. Suzuki's approach to the sneakers was to deviate from conventional university styles and instead evoke the distinctive sneaker fashions that paralleled the rise of the hip-hop era in the 1980s.
"The style of Reebok's BB4000 II perfectly matches the image I had envisioned that captures the essence of the 1980s, a time when unique hip-hop inspired sneakers became cultural symbols," stated Daiki Suzuki. He further emphasized the personal and professional significance Reebok holds for him, citing past experiences that have deepened his affinity for the brand, making this collaboration particularly meaningful.
The Engineered Garments x Reebok BB4000 II Pack will release on April 26, 2024, at Engineered Garments and select retailers, followed by a worldwide release on May 3, 2024. The sneakers will be available through Reebok, Engineered Garments, and select online and in-store retailers, with the retail price set at $120.
