Fortnite has garnered a massive following since the battle royale video game exploded in popularity in 2017. Nearly a decade later, it’s become so mainstream that brands, music artists, movie franchises, and just about anything pop culture-related has found its way in-game. Regarding sneakers and sportswear, Fortnite has a decently long history of working with some heavy hitters like Jordan Brand and Nike, who recently teamed up to launch in-game KICKS that allow players to wear some iconic real-life footwear. However, after a recent in-game collaboration with adidas that coincided with an IRL apparel drop, images of a Fortnite x adidas Ultraboost collection appeared.
Like other Fortnite footwear projects, such as the game’s collaboration with Crocs, iconic characters, items, and in-game moments are immortalized in sneaker form across both the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons. Starting in the Spring, four Ultraboost colorways are hitting shelves, two themed after in-game skins and two themed after the iconic Battle Bus that drops players off onto the Fortnite island. Starting with the Battle Bus renditions, one pair comes in the bus's color scheme of blue with rusty “metal” features found on the Three Stripes, lace dubrae, heel counter, and Fortnite-branded tongue label.
The theme of the Battle Bus continues with yellow caution tape on the pull tabs of the tongue and heel, the insole, and the graphic pattern of the clear rubber outsole. Not pictured is the Core White colorway of the Battle Bus, which will likely feature the same custom details but in a white-based color scheme. For the character side of things, adidas and Fortnite look to Peely, one of the most recognizable skins from the game, and Fishstick for inspiration.
Peely's banana appearance is translated both via a custom shroud that turns the low-top Ultraboost into a high-top, appearing like the skin of a banana, and via the Ultraboost's Primeknit construction in a light yellow hue mimicking the flesh of a banana. The character's face also appears on the toebox, and his "nana nana" sticker is applied to the transparent rubber outsole. Finally, Fishstick's orange koi fish-like appearance covers the Primeknit pattern, and his eyes are added to the heel counter.
The Fortnite x adidas Ultraboost Collection will release on March 22, 2025, through adidas and select online and in-store retailers. Following the first four pairs, the collection will continue into the Fall 2025 season. As of now, retail pricing has yet to be announced.
