The bond between street art and streetwear often crystallizes through iconic sneaker collaborations, and few partnerships have been as influential as that of Futura and Nike SB. Futura, celebrated for bringing graffiti from subway tunnels to galleries, etched a mark in sneaker lore when he first collaborated with Nike SB on the SB Dunk Low in 2003. While the sneaker world reverberated with his past masterpieces like the SB Dunk High FLOM and drooled over the unreleased Off-White x Futura x Nike Dunk Low, it has been waiting in eager anticipation for a fresh drop. Teasing fans and sneakerheads, glimpses of a new Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low for 2024 have recently emerged.
Futura Laboratories' latest Nike SB Dunk Low promises to be a visual treat. The forthcoming design echoes some elements from the artist's earlier work, melding a mesh base layer with canvas overlays adorned by Futura's abstract artwork in graffiti style. Distinguishing signatures of Futura are stamped both on the tongue and the heel, standing out against the complex pattern, while Futura Laboratories' FL is found on the medial side. We see a split set of blue and green for lacing, while an extra set of lavender laces is included. The sneaker features a crisp white Dunk midsole accentuated by contrast stitching, complementing the vivid upper. The design concludes with a semi-translucent clear outsole featuring Futura's signature in the center, replacing the usual Nike text.
Alongside the blue-based pair, another version of the Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low emerged thanks to Futura himself. This pair features a similar tie-dye design on its upper, with the pattern taking over more than just the overlays. A gradient effect is applied to the midfoot, with shades of yellow transitioning into white. Other differences include the lateral heel, which features Futura's signature instead of the FL logo, and the laces in a burgundy hue. This pair is a friends-and-family exclusive. Futura is giving fans an opportunity to win this version of the sneaker. One winner from Futura's EQL raffle for the standard pair will win this F&F version.
The Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low Bleached Aqua was originally set to release on May 10, 2024, but after a small delay, they will now release on May 22 via Nike SNKRS. A release via Futura will take place on May 15, and skate shops will drop their pairs on the 18th. As stated previously, the Sunblush colorway is for F&F only, but one winner from Futura's EQL raffle will get the pair. Futura Laboratories, Nike SNKRS, and select Nike SB-affiliated skate shops will host releases for the Bleached Aqua colorway. Available in men's sizing, the retail price is set at $135.
