In the late 60s, Brazilian culture was swept by the Tropicália movement which saw the melding of Brazillian and foreign tradition. While the movement ranged from poetry, films, politics, and more, the musical influence is still strongly felt to this day and has defined how many view Brazillian culture. To help honor this period of history, Brazilian retailer Guadalupe is bringing the Tropicália vibes to the Asics Gel-Lyte III.
The colorway utilized on this commemorative pair takes influence from the cover of the album Acabou Chorare by Novos Baianos with its use of blue, grey, black, and pink shades. Black suede takes over the toebox, tongue, Asics logo, and the uppermost eyestay overlay, accented by a greenish suede with various patterns laid atop. Vibrant hits of pink come via the mudguard's cutouts, sockliner, and through one of the two plastic eyelets. Placed along the blue heel overlay is golden embroidered co-branding with “GDLP” on the lateral side and “Gel Lyte III” featured on the medial side. Psychedelic artwork dons the insole with co-branding between the two collaborators placed on the right sneaker while the left houses “Tropicália” bubble text. Underfoot, a cream GEL cushioned midsole is paired with a grey rubber outsole.
The Guadalupe x Asics Gel-Lyte III Tropicália is slated to release worldwide via Asics and select retailers online and in-store on July 21st, 2022. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price will be around $140 USD.
