Danish design brand HAY has carved out a niche in the design world with its innovative, minimalist approach to everyday objects. Known for its collaborations with various brands, HAY is now stepping into the sneaker world by teaming up with Asics for a debut collection. This exciting partnership brings a fresh look to the Asics Skyhand OG in multiple colorways, complemented by an apparel collection. According to co-founder Mette Hay in an interview with Hypebeast, the color palette for this collection was inspired by the existing HAY designs, notably the Outline Pyjama Collection by Tilde Bjerregaard. This thoughtful approach ensures the collection seamlessly integrates HAY's signature soft hues into the Skyhand OG, creating a harmonious blend of color and texture.
The HAY x Asics Collection features the Skyhand OG in three distinct colorways: Green, Blue, and Pink. Each pair is enhanced with secondary color accents on the Asics tiger stripe and branding details, adding depth and contrast to the design. The sneakers have been upgraded with FlyteFoam in the forefoot and EVA foam in the heel for improved comfort and performance. Co-branding for HAY is prominently displayed on the insole and the heel, adding a subtle yet distinctive touch. The collection is completed with a gum sole unit, providing a classic finish that complements the modern aesthetic of the sneakers.
The HAY x Asics Collection will release on June 28, 2024, in the EU and in August for Asia Pacific through Asics, and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at approximately $130.
