As Hello Kitty continues to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, their partnership with adidas expands, with the Gazelle Indoor paying homage to the central character. After multiple collaborations between the two, including the Sambae, adiLette, and Superstar, the continuing peak in popularity for the classic Gazelle Indoor silhouette makes it the perfect vessel to bring the next design to the shelves.
The anthropomorphic cat was created in 1974 by Yuko Shimizu, with the first Hello Kitty product available the year after. During the late 90s and early 00s, the explosion of cute culture led to epic growth. By 2010, the cartoon design was established as a brand, estimated to be turning over 8 billion dollars a year in officially licensed merchandise alone. Now forever entrenched in popular culture, the cartoon unites people across the globe with its playful message and peaceful intentions clear. The current range of Hello Kitty products offered by adidas is stocked with best-sellers, with The Brand With The Three Stripes highlighting the half-century legacy that endures.
The Hello Kitty x adidas Gazelle Indoor arrives with a premium leather upper enveloped in cloud white and a smooth suede toebox overlay. The instantly recognizable ribbon bow of the character is heat-embossed across the upper, with a laser-cut image of Kitty appearing on the lateral heel. Three Stripes branding appears on the side in vibrant hues of red alongside an embroidered bow on the black back heel tab. Dual branding is applied to the tongue tags, while each lace comes tied in little ribbon bows. More premium white leather provides the lining inside the sneaker, while the insoles feature custom co-branded graphics denoting Hello Kitty's 50th Anniversary. A translucent rubber sole sits underfoot, offering improved traction and better grip.
The Hello Kitty x adidas Gazelle Indoor W is set to release on October 1, 2024. They will be available via adidas, Hello Kitty, and select retailers in-store and online. Coming in women's sizing, retail is set at $125. For updates on the latest from adidas and more in the sneaker and streetwear world, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
