Joe Freshgoods, the Chicago-based creative and designer, continues his fruitful partnership with New Balance, this time by resurrecting a deep cut from the brand's extensive archive—the New Balance 1000. Joe is well known for his storytelling through apparel and footwear, and his previous New Balance collaborations have been instant hits. This reveal occurred during Paris Fashion Week as Matt Welty from Complex reports that the image seen was taken at a New Balance party in Paris. Following this, Joe would reveal a second colorway dubbed Pink Mink.
The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 1000 collaboration is a testament to the designer's love for the brand's heritage and his eye for contemporary street fashion. The sneak peek suggests a sophisticated palette of dark burgundy and black for the upper, with the teaser revealing just enough to excite the imagination. The sole unit promises an eclectic mix of gum, tan, and purple accents, suggesting a design that respects the past while looking confidently to the future. The classic 1000 branding near the toe adds a nostalgic touch, while Joe Freshgood's signature detailing is found on the left shoe's lateral mudguard, heel tab, and insole.
The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 1000 Black Ice will release April 11, 2024, via a raffle on Joe Freshgoods' website. A release via New Balance and select retailers online and in-store will take place April 19.
