As one of the most prolific collaborators with New Balance in recent memory, Joe Freshgoods has created some of the most sought-after pairs of NBs on the market. From his collaborative efforts on the 993 and iconic 990v3 as well as helping introduce the 9060, Joe so far has tackled mainly running-focused designs from the brand. Taking to Instagram, Joe has revealed his fifth project with the Boston-based brand, titled Beneath The Surface, which includes two colorways of the New Balance 610 and a New Balance Rainer Boot.
In the caption of this announcement post, Joe states “Creating my own camo print has been a dream for me, for a while now” and that he wanted the pack to “explore the various ways in which we could use the JFG print to bring the details out.” This is translated well through the three-pack’s earthy color scheme that features intricate design patterns on the overlays of the 610. For this sneaker, we see suede panels appear throughout with added JFG branding on the tongue and collar coming in an outdoor-like design. Still, standard New Balance logos remain with the “N” and “New Balance” text appearing near the midfoot. Rounding out the two 610s is the classic foam midsole that appears to be hand-painted and an outdoor-ready rubber outsole.
On the Rainer Boot, JFG keeps things simple with the base ripstop canvas featuring his custom camo print, seen on the toebox and collar, while the overlays take on an olive green hue. Golden D-rings act as the eyestays which host a set of tonal black laces. Just above this lacing system, we see a New Balance Rainer tag featuring a graphic of a mountainous landscape and JFG branding. Making the boot ready for the outdoors, the entire silhouette is covered in Gore-Tex material to help with weather resistance. Underfoot sits a two-tone black/white midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance Beneath The Surface Pack is set to release in April 2023 through Joe Freshgoods’ website, his Every Now And Then storefront, New Balance, and select retailers online and in-store. Raffle details for JFG's Every Now And Then retail location have been added below. Releasing in men's sizing, the retail price for the two New Balance 610s are set at $160 while the Rainier boot retail for $220.
