Joe Freshgoods, the Chicago-based designer and creative powerhouse, has joined forces with New Balance again, continuing a partnership that has consistently produced some of the most sought-after releases in recent years. Known for his ability to tell stories through collaborations, Joe Freshgoods has played a pivotal role in introducing and popularizing New Balance models like the 9060. For their latest project, the duo is set to revive an almost forgotten gem from the New Balance archives: the New Balance 1000, a model that first made waves in 1999. Following the buzz around the leaked Black Ice colorway and several inline variants, Joe Freshgoods has lifted the curtain on another iteration dubbed the Pink Mink.
With the name Pink Mink, this pair is likely inspired by the iconic pink mink fur coat worn by rapper Cam'ron in the early 2000s. The sneaker features an array of textures and hues, starting with metallic pink accents adorning the midfoot overlays and heel, nodding to the luxuriousness of mink fur. The base layer of the shoe is crafted from a wide-spaced mesh in a subtle pink shade, while tan leather components envelop the mudguard and tongue, providing a rich contrast and adding to the sneaker's premium feel.
Inside, the insole boasts a vibrant flame graffiti graphic, a testament to Joe Freshgoods' flair for intricate details. The collaboration's branding is thoughtfully split between the right and left insoles, showcasing JFG and New Balance's logos. Externally, the sneaker's branding includes "New Balance 1000" on the tongue and the iconic N logo on the midfoot, with "1000" inscribed on the lateral side of the left shoe. In a unique twist, the right shoe replaces the 1000 with Joe Freshgoods' branding, further emphasizing the collaborative nature of this release. The design is full circle with a cream midsole and a gum rubber outsole.
The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 1000 Pink Mink will release April 11, 2024, through a raffle on Joe Freshgood's website and remain exclusive to JFG. The sneaker will retail for $170.
