Nike introduces the world to multiple new Air Max models every year, with 2024 seeing the latest innovation in the Air Max DN. Alongside this, the Y2K-focused Air Max Portal also debuted, but Nike has even more retro-inspired Air Max models on the horizon. On Friday, September 6, the world was given a first look at the new Air Max Muse thanks to Olympic gymnast and Nike athlete Jordan Chiles throwing out the first pitch at the New York Mets game.
Strikingly similar to the recent Reebok Engine A, this new Air Max model features a mesh base with leather overlays that create panels along the toe, midfoot, and circular portions on the sole unit. Mesh pops in black while the metallic silver overlays shine around the mudguard, toe, eyestays, and heel. More metallic silver is used on the mini Swoosh on the midfoot, with Air Max branding on the tongue, taking on a new retro-futuristic typeface. Underfoot, the midsole borrows tooling from the aforementioned Air Max Portal and comes with a black rubber outsole.
Following this initial debut, Nike officially unveiled the silhouette in November 2024. To design the sneaker, Nike used a computational design that applied filters of size, shape, texture, and Air cushioning to "envision a new silhouette that takes comfort and style to the next level."
“This silhouette was designed to surprise women sneaker fans, capturing their attention and imagination with a new application of Air — something they’ve never seen before,” says Can Eldem, Footwear Designer, Women’s Sportswear. “Our goal was to design an entirely new Air Max model focused on both expression and comfort, making the silhouette uniquely hers — sleek, beautiful and bold — while offering the kind of innovation and cushion that she expects from the Air Max franchise.”
The Nike Air Max Muse W will debut in the Black Metallic Silver colorway worn by Chiles on December 11, 2024, through select retailers. However, a full rollout will occur in Spring 2025, and plenty of colorways are planned to be released. A global launch date for the debut colorway is set for January 10, 2025. Available in women’s sizing, the sneaker will retail for $160.
