Sports and footwear go hand in hand as some of the biggest sneakers on the planet come to us courtesy of superstar athletes like LeBron James or Michael Jordan. Even with basketball reigning supreme in this realm, football players still have their place in the industry with players like Patrick Mahomes even getting a collaborative colorway with Black Panther on his signature adidas silhouette. One football player, Jordan Poyer of the Buffalo Bills, is going his own route through his brand JP21 by teaming up with the brand Alma Mater to release his own eponymous sneakers.
Following the brand's vision of blending old-world craftsmanship and modern footwear technology, the luxury JP21 comes handcrafted with soft premium leather and nubuck throughout its classically-designed upper. On the front half, grey nubuck takes over the perforated toebox and mudguard with tonal stitching details matching this grey shade while the vamp and eyestays come in a stark white shade. Icy white laces run up the leather tongue and weave through an Alma Mater branded lace loop. Back along the heel, metallic gold contrasts the grey nubuck and white leather quarter panel, though “Alma Mater” text in gold does land just near the collar. On the insole, recycled cork is used with the sockliner being made completely out of leather that provides free-heel cushioning. Rounding out the design is a white-on-white rubber sole unit.
The Jordan Poyer x Alma Mater JP21 has seen a small launch in Buffalo, New York earlier in September with an online release set for September 25th, 2022 through Alma Mater’s website.
