Hoka may have found its start in the world of performance running but has leaned into the “hype” side of the footwear industry in recent years. Just recently, Hoka teamed up with Japanese retailer BEAMS to launch an exclusive colorway of its Stinson EVO OG, Satisfy for a two-pack of Mafate Speed 4 colors, and British-Iranian designer Paria Farzaneh for a two-pack of Hoka Restore TC Chukka colors. Now, Hoka is again traveling to Japan to work with famed designer Junya Watanabe on the Hoka Ora Primo.
First previewed during Paris Fashion Week in March, Junya Watanabe’s take on the Hoka Ora Primo is neutral, in line with most of Watanabe’s work. Black shades cover the mule silhouette, taking over the puffy and leather portions of the upper. Elevating the sneaker from its humble origins are the metallic silver chains that stretch all over the forefoot and back to the heel, replacing the thick elastic laces found on the standard Ora Primo. Inside, the textured foam footbed features Junya Watanabe branding in white. The black foam midsole finishes the sneaker and pairs it with a tonal rubber outsole.
The Junya Watanabe x Hoka Ora Primo will release on November 15, 2024, through select retailers, including Dover Street Market, online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at ¥75,900 (approx $490).
