If Paris Fashion Week has shown us anything, it's that Junya Watanabe is the king of collaborations. With projects with Carhartt WIP, Palace, and The North Face slated to drop this year, the Japanese visionary also revealed that he will be reconnecting with New Balance for a vast selection of sneakers. After checking out his take on the 1906R, we're now taking a first look at the Junya Watanabe's New Balance 650 Pack. Consisting of three monochromatic color options, make sure you read on to find out everything that we know so far.
While the 650 looks like a basketball shoe that has been swiped straight out of the archives, it's actually an all-new silhouette that's inspired by the 550. Introduced in 2021, Rei Kawakubo's protégé has taken the model to the dark side for this collection. The first pair boasts a slick all-black palette and is crafted from a combination of smooth leather and breathable mesh, while the second opts for a hairy suede and buttery nubuck construction that's extremely premium. To round off the pack, Watanabe has added a clean black and white edition that's outfitted in supple suede with various textures for added depth. All three pairs feature co-branded details throughout to cement the coveted collaboration.
The Junya Watanabe x New Balance 650 Pack will release October 6, 2023 via retailers who stock Junya Watanabe online and in-store. A retail price has yet to be announced, but expect it to be on the more premium side.
