Asics has enjoyed renewed success thanks to the advent of mesh runners in fashion circles and the ethos of sneaker culture. Multiple models from the Japanese label fit the bill, with the Gel-NYC being one of the newest offerings. Following early looks at the upcoming PLEASURES collab on the model, Asics has revealed that influencer Kicki Yang Zhang is getting two colorways of the Asics Gel-NYC.
Mixtures of leather, from patent to tumbled and smooth, are present on this Gel-NYC, with the base constructed out of mesh. This base takes on a cream-colored hue extending onto the tongue, while white leather underlays line the toebox, midfoot, and collar. Along the profile is a large pink patent leather panel featuring Asics branding in white near the heel. Contrasting the neutral and pink hues is a shiny metallic silver toe cap, which matches the lining of the cream Asics tiger stripe logo. More pink hues land on the lace set, sockliner, and tongue lining contrasting the white and cream along the tongue. The pink foam midsole with glittery pink Gel pods near the heel and toe and a cream-white rubber outsole round out the design.
Alongside the pink pair that emerged, a Black Silver Toe color scheme also appeared. This iteration also features a mixture of leathers and mesh with the toecap coming coated in metallic silver. The rest of the upper and sole unit is in tonal black hues
The Kicki Yang Zhang x Asics Gel-NYC Pack releases on September 26, 2024, through Asics and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, retail is set at $130.
