The Kiko Kostadinov x Asics UB9-S Gel-DS Trainer 14 Pack Releases February 2025

2024 was defined by the rise of brands like Asics, with the Japanese label making significant headway in popularity among sneakerheads. Part of the reason for this renewed interest was the growing strength of the mesh runner trend. The Asics archives are full of different models that fit this bill, and 2025 will see the return of a model from 2009—the Gel-DS Trainer 14.

Sole Retriever previously reported that Gel-DS Trainer 14 would be the next model from Asics’ archives to receive a revival as official images of GR colorways made their way online in October last year. However, the first re-release of the sneaker will be in collaboration with Kiko Kostadinov. For the uninitiated, Kiko currently heads Asics’ SportStyle division, akin to Teddy Santis’ role with New Balance’s Made in USA line, and on top of his guidance for inline releases, he still finds time to work with his current employers through his fashion label.

Kiko Kostadinov x Asics UB9-S Gel-DS Trainer 14 Midnight

Part of the UB series, which previously tackled models like the Gel-Kayano 20 and GT-2160, the material makeovers and color palettes on these Gel-DS Trainer 14s are inspired by Interlaced Assemblages, Functional Utopias, and Mino Ceramics. The collection includes four pairs—Desert Camp, Waterfall, Dark Mustard, and Midnight—all featuring the same construction and color blocking. A striped pattern is applied to the open-spaced mesh along the toe, collar, and heel, while leather panels on the midfoot surround a solid-colored mesh base.

Contrasting shades in these stripes match the midfoot panel and parts of the synthetic overlays along the vamp and profile. As with most Kiko UB Asics, we see an added pull tab on the tongue and a woven Asics logo on the insole. The tonal foam midsole finishes the design, featuring Gel-Cushioning in the heel and a matching rubber outsole.

The Kiko Kostadinov x Asics UB9-S Gel-DS Trainer 14 Pack will release in February 2025 through Asics and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
