Ronnie Fieg has grown his Kith label to become one of the premier one-stop-shop retailers for the latest clothing and footwear. On top of the brand carrying some of the most coveted releases on sneakerhead’s radars, Kith’s inline releases and collaborative efforts draw the attention of many in this “hype” realm. One partnership that has been strong since day one is with New Balance, as the two have crafted a series of iconic colorways on NBs classic 99X silhouettes. Continuing off the success of the recent Kith x New Balance 993 “Spring 101,” Kith and NB now have a two-pack of New Balance 998 colorways heading our way.
Originally teased on the cover of the Japanese sneaker magazine Shoes Master, the two renditions of the Kith x New Balance 998 take on a colorful approach compared to previous releases on this silhouette between the two. One pair boasts peachy hits around the suede mudguard, with yellow and muted greens accenting along the tongue and midfoot. The other pair hosts vibrant red hits on its mudguard, with accenting shades of light tan, brown, and peachy salmon. Both silhouettes get the classic New Balance branding details, spotted on the tongue and midfoot, with the “N” logo dressed in white and piped with each respective pair’s accenting color. Black hits along the TPU, mesh collar, and a white/black sole unit complete the look.
Also revealed in Shoes Master as well as Ronnie Fieg is the connection to famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright as his foundation is playing a role in this collaboration. Inspiration for the color scheme comes from Wright's Broadacre City concept. This concept is overtly referenced on the insoles of each sneaker as well as the packaging.
The Kith x New Balance 998 Made In USA Broadacre City Pack will be released on three separate dates. First, an exclusive launch through the Kith Tokyo store on April 14th, 2023 with Fieg set to make an appearance. Following this, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation will host a launch at Taliesin West (located in Scottsdale, Arizona) on April 15th. Finally, a wider launch through all Kith locations and kith.com will take place on 4/17. The "Red Tan" pair will also drop on newbalance.com on April 25th. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $220 each.
