New Balance has mastered the art of the archival revival, bringing back models that many in the mainstream and even die-hard New Balance fans had no idea existed. One of the multiple revivals in 2024 was a tech runner from 1999, the New Balance 1000, which was ushered in via a collaborative two-pack with long-time NB partner Joe Freshgoods. Since then, the model has hit shelves in various inline colorways and has been worked on by multiple partners. For 2025, NB will give the silhouette a Cordura-covered makeover in three colorways.
The wavy, free-flowing design of the 1000 remains untouched on these three colorways, Olive, Black, and Black Grey, with the only major switch-up on the silhouette being the inclusion of Cordura fabric. This resistant and durable material lands on the base layer of each pair, taking on a tonal look that matches the bottom half of the upper. The split design is present not only via the color palette but also by material, with the overlays near the mudguard and the bottom half of the midfoot taking on a suede finish. In contrast, the top overlay comes constructed out of leather.
Typical New Balance 1000 branding remains in its usual spots, including the New Balance 1000 embroidered on the top of the tongue tag and the 1000 text on the heel and lateral toe. However, a tag for Cordura is added near the lateral collar. Another switch-up, albeit not branding-related, is the lack of a leather overlay down the spine of the tongue, a feature that many pointed out evokes the vibes of the Air Max 95’s tongue. Tonal foam midsoles and outsoles finish the sneakers.
The New Balance 1000 Cordura Pack will release in early 2025 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $150.
