New Balance has made it a habit to visit its extensive archives and give forgotten models a modern-day makeover with revivals coming left and right. The New Balance 1000, a runner initially released in 1999, is the latest to make a comeback. This retro silhouette has already seen several exciting reintroductions, including inline colorways and collaborations with renowned partners like Joe Freshgoods and Aime Leon Dore. Following the success of these releases and previews of inline colorways like the Pink Tan and Black Multi-Color, New Balance is set to launch a new stealthy iteration of the sneaker: the New Balance 1000 Phantom Blacktop.
The New Balance 1000 Phantom Blacktop features a sleek, all-black color scheme that exudes sophistication and versatility. The upper is entirely coated in black, giving it a bold and modern look. Reflective 3M nylon lace loops add a touch of functionality and style, enhancing visibility in low-light conditions.
White accents provide subtle contrast, appearing on the N logo along the midfoot, the 1000 text near the toe, and the New Balance branding on the heel and tongue. Like other colorways, an additional panel on the tongue partially covers the lacing system and extends down to the toe. The black foam midsole offers comfort and support, while the tonal rubber outsole ensures durability and traction.
The New Balance 1000 Phantom Blacktop will release in 2024 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
