New Balance’s “Made In” lineup brings us some of their most beloved silhouettes in their most elevated form, utilizing higher quality materials while being made domestically either in the UK or the US. This practice started 40 years ago in Flimby, UK, producing around 30,000 pairs of sneakers a week for the Boston-based brand. To help celebrate the factory's anniversary, a special 40th Anniversary New Balance 1500 has been commissioned.
Covering the upper is a mix of tumbled leather overlays and mesh underlays. Wrapping around the grey mesh toebox is a grey leather mudguard, both of which come accented by a navy blue leather overlay. Flat laces take on a grey tone, complementing the grey tongue and “New Balance Made In England” embroidery up top. Along the midfoot and heel is yet another tumbled leather overlay in grey, with the “N” logo embroidered onto the midfoot and “1500” on the heel.
The collar just above takes on a lighter grey tone, also acting as a home for “NB” branding on the heel. The 40th Anniversary of the Flimby factory gets its nod with a graphic pressed onto the insole. Rounding out the look is an aged white midsole and a two-tone black and grey rubber outsole.
The New Balance 1500 Made In UK 40th Anniversary is set to release in 2022 through New Balance and select NB retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
