A list of New Balance’s recent successes would be incomplete without the New Balance 550. The sneaker has been a certified hit ever since being revived by Aimé Leon Dore in 2020. The silhouette is a ripe canvas for color-blocking, as seen on the red suede model or patriotic USA rendition. Now, New Balance decides to go more neutral with a tonal white 550 Canvas set to release this year.
Cloud white canvas covers the 550's upper from heel to toe. Stitched "550" detailing can be seen towards the toe box, while an embossed leather "N" logo pops in white in its usual place. Tonal branding can also be found on the back heel with the "NB" motion logo. The sleek white midsole carries a pebbled texture that works well with the upper. White laces grace the top foot, while a white tongue tag features branding in faint sail. Two tonal New Balance branding hits can be found on the midsole, both near the mid foot. A small dash of color is finally added through a gum outsole.
The New Balance 550 Canvas White Gum is expected to release this year via New Balance and select retailers, online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is expected to be $110.
