New Balance’s revival of the 550 silhouette was perfect timing for the Boston-based footwear label as the brand saw a massive surge in popularity. Mainly due to the fact the New Balance 550 filled the gap in the market with the instant-sell-out Nike Dunk, we’ve seen NB take the model and pump out countless renditions that have mostly stuck to the OG all-leather and mesh construction. Now three years into the rebirth of the model, New Balance is adding hemp overlays to the New Balance 550 in a “Sea Salt” colorway.
Appearing oddly similar to the JFG-led “Conversations Amongst Us” colorway, this New Balance 550 Hemp takes on hemp overlays and underlays throughout the upper in a tonal “Sea Salt.” Accenting this creamy shade are hits of black on branding details, such as the “550” and “New Balance” text as well as the “N” and “NB” logos. Along the hemp tongue sits a set of white laces that differs slightly from the nearby sockliner’s shade with our lone hits of suede being present on the collar overlay and “N” logo. Underfoot sits a creamy vintage midsole paired with a tonal rubber outsole.
The New Balance 550 Hemp Sea Salt will release June 1st, 2023 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120.
