Low-top retro basketball models have continued to dominate the sneaker scene thanks to the advent of the Nike Dunk Low’s popularity. Other brands in the space, like adidas and New Balance, introduced models that fill the void for the sneaker that cannot sit on shelves - the Forum 84 and 550 respectively. The latter of the two has emerged as a runner-up in this space with collabs coming from brands like Aime Leon Dore, though NB still offers GR releases that hit just the same. For its latest offering, the Boston-based brand brings its iconic “Rain Cloud” color to the New Balance 550.
Unlike most NB 550 releases, the majority of the upper comes in suede with leather and canvas hits appear around the collar and heel. Overlays on the mudguard, quarter panel, and heel come in the titular “Rain Cloud” grey with branding details, like the “550” text on the perforated panel and “N” logo on the midfoot, featured in a similar shade. Cream lands on the lace set and tongue with the tongue tag coming in a more stark white shade. Back on the heel, NB branding comes stampepd atop the grey suede panel, sitting just below the white canvas collar. Rounding out the design is the white NB 550 midsole paired with a cream rubber outsole.
The New Balance 550 Rain Cloud is set to release on October 1st, 2022 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
