Without a shadow of a doubt, New Balance's 550 is currently one of the most popular basketball shoes in the world. Introduced back in the '80s, it was revived in 2021 and nothing has been the same since. After checking out the "Rain Cloud," "Sea Salt," and "Turtledove" just last week, we're now taking our very first look at the New Balance 550 "Wheat." Seemingly inspired by a pair of rugged work boots that you might find in a construction site or on the New York City subway, if you want these in your collection make sure you read on to find out everything that we know so far.
While both adidas and Nike SB have released their own renditions of this inspiration in the past, New Balance's execution definitely stands out from the crowd. Constructed from mesh, leather, and suede, the entire sneaker is painted in a clean canyon color scheme, while a sprinkle of tobacco takes over the "N" logo and collar area. True brown tones cover the inner sockliner for an earthy look and feel, and of course, you can't talk about this coveted colorway without mentioning the midsole underfoot which has been completely decked out in gum rubber for that true work boot vibe that we all know and love.
Unlike a lot of 550s that have been recently announced, the New Balance 550 Wheat will actually drop in men's sizes when it releases later in 2023. Expected to retail for $110 at New Balance and select retailers worldwide, make sure you follow Sole Retriever on Twitter and download our officialMobile App for your best chance to secure your pair!
