New Balance has seen massive success in recent memory thanks to the reintroduction of the New Balance 550 in 2020. Ever since this revival, the model has been a canvas for collaborators and the NB design team alike to create clean colorways, many of which stick to a classic two-tone color palette. For its latest women’s exclusive colorway, NB has dressed the humble 550 in a “White Dark Mercury” makeup.
Dressed in an all-leather build (sans the mesh panel on the collar and heel), the model mostly partakes in a white finish with accenting hits of dark mercury landing throughout. Perforated leather panels appear near the toe and along the midfoot with the “550” branded overlay while we see a small hint of mesh peeking through near the vamp in dark mercury. Tonal white laces run up the tongue towards the basketball-graphic-laden tongue tag which features more hits of dark mercury as does the lining of the tongue. Along the midfoot, the dark mercury “N” logo pops amongst the white panels and helps complement the leather overlay found along the collar in the same hue. Our final hits of accenting color come in the form of the “NB” logo on the heel and via the rubber heel counter. Rounding out the design is the white NB 550 midsole paired with a white and dark mercury rubber outsole.
The New Balance 550 White Dark Mercury W is set to release on February 1st, 2023 through New Balance and select NB retailers online and in-store.
