New Balance has been on a remarkable journey with its 550 silhouette, reviving the model from its archives and transforming it into one of the most in-demand sneakers of recent times. With its roots deeply embedded in basketball heritage, the New Balance 550 has found a new lease of life in the lifestyle market, appealing to a broad audience with its retro aesthetic and comfortable fit. Amidst a sea of releases, New Balance is set to refresh the 550 lineup with an exciting twist, paying homage to the vibrant Y2K era with a Patent Leather Pack bound to turn heads.
The New Balance 550 Y2K Patent Leather Pack nods to the glossy, high-shine styles that dominated the early 2000s fashion scene. They are reminiscent of iconic footwear pieces like BAPE STA’s and Pharrell Williams’ Ice Cream sneakers. This upcoming pack features two standout colorways: a playful Pink Green combination and a striking Red Pink mix in lustrous patent leather.
For the Pink Green variant, the sneaker showcases a harmonious blend of colors, with pink adorning the toe box, midfoot, and tongue, contrasted by green on the key overlays. Yellow accents on the “N” logo, lace set, and heel tab inject a lively burst of color, complemented by New Balance branding and a star graphic on the heel. A yellow midsole paired with a pink outsole creates a playful yet cohesive look for the sneaker.
The Red Pink colorway takes a slightly different approach, featuring pink overlays against a red base, with blue accents on the “N” logo, laces, and heel, adding depth to the palette. This pair is finished with a blue midsole and a brown outsole, offering a unique color combination that stands out from the crowd.
The New Balance 550 Y2K Patent Leather Pack will release in 2024 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. As of now, the retail price has yet to be announced.
