Digging through the design archives has played a massive role in the recent success of New Balance as the nearly century-old brand has found a new slot in the “hype” world. Aside from silhouettes like the 2002R and 550, we’ve seen the label bring back a classic that was once an exclusive model for the Japanese market - the New Balance 580. Its chunky retro look plays well in today's fashion world and since it has returned to the release calendar it has appeared in numerous colorways. For its latest rendition, the New Balance 580 is getting covered in a “Black Multi” color combo.
Following similar colorblocking to the recently revealed “Blue Multi” colorway, the silhouette swaps out the primary shade of blue for black across its various suede and leather panels while taking on an array of colors on other portions of the model. Along the toebox, tongue, and collar sits an open-faced mesh in a vibrant purple shade with the tag atop the tongue coming in a mix of volt green and blue. Further hits of blue can be found on the interior lining of the tongue and along the collar’s TPU overlay while the rest of the upper takes on shades of grey and black. Rounding out the design is the two-tone green and orange midsole with a Rollbar included near the heel paired with a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 580 Black Multi is set to release in 2023 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
