New Balance's heritage designs brought the brand to where it is today. However, innovations like the 9060 have breathed new life into the brand as the chunky Y2K aesthetic has been a hit amongst sneakerheads and the general public. Continuing off the 9060 series, New Balance introduces the world to a new sneaker version with a completely redesigned upper on the New Balance 8040.
The New Balance 8040 is an update and a complete overhaul of its predecessor. It features a sleek, low-cut silhouette entirely dressed in suede, available in three introductory colorways: Brown, Navy, and Incense. This model forgoes traditional lacing systems, favoring a removable shroud secured by a Velcro strap, offering a clean and futuristic aesthetic.
The design maintains the familiar shape around the throat and collar seen in the 9060. It retains the CR motion control device at the heel, ensuring it remains rooted in New Balance’s commitment to comfort and performance. Underfoot, the 8040 inherits the distinct pod-like chunky sole of the 9060, presented in tonal colors that complement each upper.
The New Balance 8040 will release on September 4, 2024, in the Incense colorway. The Brown and Navy pairs will follow in the coming months. Each pair will be available through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, retail is set at $120.
