If you told your average sneakerhead in 2020 that New Balance would be one of the top brands in the near future, you’d likely get some strange looks. Often considered “dad shoes,” NB’s 99X series has continued to grow in popularity amongst the sneaker scene with well-placed collabs via Joe Freshgoods, Aime Leon Dore, and more. ALD’s founder, Teddy Santis, did such a fantastic job creating colorways through his NYC-based brand that the team at Boston decided to give him a spot within the company as the Made In USA Creative Director. With an upcoming 990v3 "Scarlet" on the horizon, the latest 990v2 borrows this red shade on the "Chrysanthemum" colorway.
A combination of premium materials, including hairy suede, pig suede, and mesh, creates this red and navy NB 990v2 with white accents seen throughout. For the base material of mesh, the aforementioned navy takes over, complimented by deep navy overlays on the toebox as well as the red hairy suede placed on the mudguard and heel. Along the midfoot, deeper red shades take over the pigskin suede, host to both the navy N logo and the white cotton laces. Working up to the top of the black and navy tongue is white “990 New Balance” embroidery. This colorless shade is also found along the sockliner, though the insole nearby comes in pitch black. Rounding out the look is the cream Abzorb cushioned midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 990v2 Made in USA by Teddy Santis Chrysanthemum is slated to release on July 28th, 2022 through New Balance and select NB retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $195.
